Body Positive Tools to Support Eating Competence

$20.00

A webinar for professionals by Elizabeth Jackson, MS, RDN, LDN

Many nutrition professionals have adopted the model of internal regulation of eating—trusting regulators of hunger, appetite and satiation/satiety—as foundational for recovery from eating struggles, for example, chronic yo-yo dieting (which has often resulted in a lot of weight gain in adulthood).  But can this model work for clinical eating disorders?  Do we feel we need to give different advice to someone who weighs 400 pounds versus 150 pounds?

This webinar will focus on two of Elizabeth’s clinical tools, which apply Satter’s construct of eating competence, for discussing eating regulation and weight with clients. No CEUs are associated with this webinar.

How does internal regulation map with safe meal plans? How do we bridge the idea of honoring appetite with managing disease conditions such as diabetes?  What if the stable weight that emerges with eating competence feels medically unacceptable to a client given health conditions? We may be stumped when clients ask us, “I can listen to my body now but is it wrong to pursue weight loss? Can I ever lose weight?“  Do we feel we need to give different advice to someone who weighs 400 pounds versus 150 pounds? Elizabeth Jackson has used Satter paradigms for over 30 years in clinical practice in her work with families and individuals, dieting casualties and clients with eating disorders. This webinar will focus on two of Elizabeth’s clinical tools, which apply Satter's construct of eating competence, for discussing eating regulation and weight with clients.

    Excellent Training!

Excellent training! I gained tools that I can apply with clients immediately. I can’t wait to use them!

  2. Lea Ann N.

    Well Planned

This was a well planned webinar with an extremely knowledgeable practitioner who presents case studies to help with the understanding of the material.

  3. Lisa J.

    Brilliant!

This was a sane and brilliant formulation to understand how to help people understand, accept, inhabit their body and take care of them with food and appropriate attention.

  4. Ann M.

    Useful Tools

A great presentation with useful tools for helping people move to internal regulation. Working in a traditional hospital dietitian role I struggle to promote internal regulation to people who seek out and are referred for weight loss. I’m hopeful the Weight Continuum model will provide a bridge between the two approaches.

  5. Shoshanah O.

    Incredible!

Incredible program with valuable content to assist their patients in achieving body confidence while moving on the continuum towards moderate.

  6. Janesse H.

    Excellent Explanation

Excellent explanation of the eating behavior continuum and how people may end up where they are, in addition to examples for how weight is not representation of health.

  7. Holly B.

    Extremely Helpful

Elizabeth Jackson is clearly well practiced and experienced in this model of care. Her point of view and Continuums are extremely helpful to help understand (and help patients understand) their weight and eating behaviors.
