For the Health of Higher-Weight Kids – Understanding the AAP Guidelines
$30.00
On-demand webinar for professionals by Ragen Chastain, MEd, BCPA
In February 2023, the American Academy of Pediatrics released clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of higher-weight children and adolescents, recommending intensive lifestyle interventions beginning at age 2, weight-loss medications beginning at age 12, and metabolic and bariatric surgery beginning at age 13 for selected youth.
The publication of these guidelines prompted significant discussion among eating disorder professionals, weight-inclusive healthcare advocates, researchers, and fat activism communities regarding their potential impact on children, adolescents, and families.
In this webinar, participants will critically examine the guidelines, including conflicts of interest, the research cited to attempt to support the recommendations, and ethical concerns.
Finally, we’ll discuss how the Satter Division of Responsibility in Feeding can be used as a weight-neutral, do no harm approach to support the health of kids of all sizes.
