Orthorexia in Teens: Using the Satter Approach for Recovery and Resilience

$25.00

August 20, 2025, 11 am – 12 pm CT

Webinar for professionals presented by Alexia Beauregard, MS, RD, CSP, LD

Orthorexia – an obsessive focus on “healthy” eating – presents unique challenges for adolescents, especially those concerned with body image or athletic performance. For registered dietitians and health care professionals familiar with the Ellyn Satter models, understanding how to apply these frameworks in cases of adolescent orthorexia is essential.

This webinar will define orthorexia in the adolescent population, highlighting key behaviors such as food avoidance, obsessive dietary restrictions, and the impact of food sensitivities and gastrointestinal concerns. Participants will explore risk factors that make teens vulnerable, assess when intervention is necessary, and learn how the Ellyn Satter models can support teens in developing a positive relationship with food. Through a case study and practical takeaways, this session will equip professionals with strategies to guide adolescents toward eating competence while recognizing when higher-level care may be needed.

Equity and student discounts available. Email [email protected] for details.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Define orthorexia in adolescence and recognize behavioral indicators such as food fear, restriction patterns, and obsessive eating behaviors.
  2. Identify risk factors for orthorexia in teens, including body image concerns, athletic pressure, and food-related anxiety.
  3. Apply the Satter Models to support teens and their families in developing balanced and flexible eating habits.
  4. Evaluate when a referral for higher-level care is necessary by recognizing warning signs that indicate more severe disordered eating behaviors.
