Neurodivergent
Adults and Food
Neurodivergent adults have often grown up with the label of being “picky”. While it is common to have certain food preferences, picky eating can become a problem if you’ll only eat a short list of foods. If this is the case, it can be hard to get the nutrients your body needs, plus you may feel singled-out, shamed, and criticized for your food selection. You may also struggle with meal routines or planning and feel ashamed of yourself for not doing something that seems to come naturally to others.

Nutrient deficiencies from eating a limited diet can be a concern, so consider seeking the support of a registered dietitian with experience in the Satter approach to help you.

If you are well-nourished but have a short number of foods that you prefer and this doesn’t cause you any stress or discomfort, it’s perfectly fine to eat what you prefer.
