How is Eating Competence coaching different than traditional nutrition counseling?

At the heart of a trusting relationship with food is the principle of Eating Competence.

Eating Competence, as defined by the Satter Eating Competence Model (ecSatter), is being positive, comfortable, and flexible with eating as well as matter-of-fact and reliable about getting enough to eat of personally enjoyable, nourishing food.

Eating Competence Coaching Options

We have trained Eating Competence coaches who can guide you through Ellyn Satter’s How to Eat program. This personalized, short-term program (10 weeks) offers cognitive and behavioral treatment for distorted eating attitudes and behaviors. Working with a coach provides structured support in key areas:

  • Training and Focused Eating Experiences: Learn relaxation and tuning in techniques, and a systematic approach to stabilize and develop positive eating behaviors.
  • Self-Awareness and Acceptance: Build self-awareness around food choices, hunger, and fullness cues while practicing self-acceptance.
  • Overcoming Negative Thought Patterns: ESI coaches help manage disruptions to eating caused by negative thoughts about weight, shape and size.

Discovery Call: Get matched with an experienced ESI coach who will discuss your current situation and determine whether the How to Eat program, or a more customized approach to coaching is right for you.

Number 2

Comprehensive Review: After you decide on a coaching option, your coach will delve into your eating behaviors, attitudes, strengths and challenges and will reveal personalized insights and recommendations tailored to you and your needs. In some cases, this is all you’ll need to achieve your goals.

Number 3

How to Eat Program or Pay-as-you-go Coaching: Based on the results of the comprehensive review, you may choose to work through the structured How to Eat program or you’ll work with your coach during targeted sessions to address any                           distorted eating behaviors and attitudes you have, to help you nurture a trusting                           relationship with food and your body.

Together, we’ll determine what’s best for you – the full How to Eat program or pay-as-you-go sessions. This call is designed to give you clarity and set the stage for your specific eating solutions.

Comprehensive Review and Coaching: $375

Take the next step with our in-depth review of your eating and initial coaching. This thorough review delves into your eating attitudes and behaviors, and your strengths and challenges with eating. Next, your coach will provide personalized insights and recommendations tailored to your unique situation. In some cases, this review and initial coaching alone can resolve concerns, providing you with the guidance and strategies you need to move forward with confidence.

How to Eat Program: $1,300 for 10 sessions

Pay-as-you-go Coaching: $175 per 50-minute session
